Kitchen Encounter

For a cost-conscious couple in Austin, architect Sean Guess created a livable home with a simple, modern approach. One of his first orders of business: the kitchen. By extending the exposed floor joists beyond a Western Window Systems’ Series 600 Multi-Slide Door, Guess created a cantilevered porch roof, creating an inviting and inventive kitchen with a strong connection to the patio. “One of my main tenets from a design standpoint is rhythm,” Guess says in Dwell magazine. “I like being in the kitchen and sensing the rhythm and extension to the outside.”
