With hurricanes, humidity, and insects being some of the main considerations when designing any home in southern Louisiana, indoor-outdoor connection must be well-planned and deliberate, and Winn Wittman knew that his vision for the Pelican House could be accomplished with the right materials.

To achieve his aesthetic, the large custom sizes of Western Window Systems` products allow the energy to flow uninterrupted between the living room, the infinity pool, and Lake Charles beyond. Meanwhile, they proved their durability when the home was hit by four different hurricanes over the course of it`s construction and unveiling.

And as far as humidity and insects, Wittman noted that, “obviously, you’ve got insects close to the river, and the doors need to be easily opened and closed... Given the size of the glass, we wanted to select a sliding door that rolled freely. And the Western Windows Systems slider is very easy to open and close, even in these larger panels.”
